Emirates Leisure Retail (ELR) has won the global award for Best Airport Casual Dining Restaurant of the Year with Kitchen by Mike at the Airport Food and Beverage Awards in Finland last week.
ELR uses locally sourced produce with Mike McEnearney’s canteen style eatery in the newly transformed Sydney Airport T1 International City View Precinct.

Kitchen by Mike creates a shared experience around wholesome, generous, and responsibly sourced food, showcased through an all-day menu. The seasonal menu changes daily based on availability of the best locally sourced products. For those on the go, Fly by Mike carry on tray-packs are packed freshly to the traveller’s choice. The offerings include salads and roast vegetables, light meat and fish dishes, homemade cakes and puddings, seasonal fruit, as well as a selection of health tonics such as Kombucha or cold pressed juices.
Breakfast signature items include the bacon butty with Mike’s ketchup, or buckwheat toast served with cultured vegetables and goat’s curd. For those departing later in the day, dishes include crispy pork belly with piccalilli and watercress, za’taar roasted chicken with spiced red onions, and harissa.
In a relaxed dining environment overlooking the Sydney city skyline, the exposed structure has an industrial feel, and uses materials that reinforce a fresh, local, and authentic feel while providing stories about the origins of the locally sourced produce.
ELR operates more than 300 outlets, with 85 outlets across 15 airport premises catering to a potential audience of over 200 million passengers each year.
