W Doha Hotel & Residences has hired Spencer Sun as its new chef de cuisine for South-East Asian restaurant, Spice Market.
With 14 years’ experience Sun, began his career in 2002 at the College of Hotel and Culinary Arts at Sorabul Hotel University in his native South Korea.
He served in the South Korean Navy for more than two years then went on to learn the art of sushi at Marche Restaurant in South Korea.
Sun also has experience from Table 34, Grand InterContinental and JW Marriott in Seoul and achieved a number of medals at Seoul International Culinary Competition, including two gold medals in Live Cooking and Hot Parts.
He first moved to the Middle East in 2011 as demi chef de partie at Marriott Marquis Doha, before being promoted to chef de partie.
In 2015, Sun assumed the role of chef de partie at the celebrity branded Nobu in Miami, where he was trained by the corporate chef in different sections of the kitchen before being promoted to the role of junior sous chef.
He then assisted with the pre-opening of Nobu Eden Rock Hotel before moving back to the Middle East to join the team at W Doha.
