A fire broke out at around 2.30pm yesterday in the 75-storey Sulafa Tower, located opposite Oceana Towers and Westin Hotel in Dubai Marina. No injuries have been reported.

The fire, which is believed to have started on the 60th floor with winds quickly spreading the fire, subsequently damaging apartments across eight floors.

Major General Rashid Thani Al Matroushi, director-general of Dubai Civil Defence, said in a statement that the fire was brought under control within two hours and there were no casualties reported. All residents were evacuated to ensure their safety and the Civil Defence teams were conducting a complete survey of the tower on Wednesday night.Capture

In light of the events, neighbouring hotel’s The Westin Dubai and Le Meridien Mina Seyahi were quick to offer their support to local residents, Tweeting: “To anyone affected by the #Sulafa Tower fire, we are opening up the Westin ballroom should you need temporary shelter and refreshments.”
