For Dubai foodies craving a taste of authentic Singaporean cuisine, Al Seef’s newest restaurant, Sedap Asian Street Kitchen has debuted its new black pepper and chilli crab menu.
Representing one of the only restaurants in Dubai where diners can enjoy Singaporean cuisine, Sedap’s crab menu uses mud crabs, as done in Singapore. With two options available, guests can opt for the famed chilli crab, which is served in a sweet and savoury tomato and chilli based sauce that is thickened with egg, or the black pepper crab which boasts a strong peppery aroma with sweet and tender crab meat.
Slow-cooked by chef Jaslin to ensure melt-in-the-mouth softness, the crabs are served with soft Chinese mantou buns that come deep fried or steamed, depending on preference, to be dipped in the umami-filled sauce. The best way to enjoy the dish? Dive deep and get cracking, however, bibs, gloves and crab tools are available for those who don’t want to get their fingers dirty.
Commenting on the development of the restaurant’s Singaporean crab dishes, Sameer Purain, owner of Sedap said: “As Singaporeans, we wanted to introduce Singapore’s unofficial national dish, the chilli crab to our menu. Anyone who is from Singapore or who has visited the country will no doubt have heard of or tasted the dish. To ensure the authenticity of flavours found in Singapore, we went through months of recipe development and trials to make sure we got the taste just right.”
Singaporean owned and operated, Sedap – meaning ‘tasty’ in Malay – has authenticity at its core and presents the sights, smells and flavours of those found on the bustling streets of Singapore in a laid-back atmosphere with uninterrupted views over the waters of Dubai Creek.
